Default No reverse lockout

I just replaced the rear block plate, clutch, throw out bearing, pilot bearing, washed the whole trans, torque tube, replaced the rear pads.
i did it at work, and on the way home, i clashed with reverse gear.
it did not go into reverse, but made a ugly noise.
what did i miss?

Hopefully you may have just disconnected the connector at the reverse lockout solenoid, located up on top of the transmission. My 97 recently started doing the same thing, I am just being very careful when shifting into 5th until I replace the solenoid.

There are two white connectors on the harness.
i remember when i got the car, i put in the skip shift bypass.
one of the white connectors goes to that.
the way the wires had laid on the trans led me to believe i got them right.
i had second thoughts about them, and switched them.
maybe tomorrow morning i will remove the skip switch module and plug it back in.
if it works, they are not switched, then reinstall the module.
thanks for your input.
i am unfamiliar with a lot if things on this car, because for 94,000 miles, up to this point, i have done very little to it, it has been a really great car, breaking very seldom.

I plugged in the vss, and problem solved.
i guess the computer programming kicks it oit at 2 or 3 mph.
without vss, you can put it in reverse

Great, I fear that it will not be as simple for me to correct my problem, as the reverse lock out solenoid has to be replaced. I have read up on it and need a 1/4'' inch ratchet and 13mm socket and have to remove the 13mm bolt almost all of this by feel, the other alternative is to drop the rear cradle some amount to gain more access.

Default Solenoid

It’s not that bad.
if you lower the cradle, you will have to remove the center exhaust, 14 bolts, and buy the two rear gaskets that bolt to the muffler tubes.
a pita.
just reach around left side, laying on a creeper, with a small screwdriver, unclip the plug.
then use a ratchet with the 13 mm socket, remove bolt.
can’t help u with install, since i didn’t remove it, but i switched those white plugs easy.
good luck

Don't sweat replacing it. That was the very first thing I had to do to my '04 when I got it. Backed it up on ramps and went at it. Had the old one out and the new one installed in about 20-30 minutes, and I didn't even drop the wrench on my head! LOL

You can also install the cover plate 180deg out causing loss of lock-out function.

Thank for all the reply's, I know it's not that hard to replace the lock out solenoid, I just don't look forward to crawling underneath my car to do it. I have the GM part number and will be ordering next week.
