I'm replacing the MAP sensor on the new Z which came to me with a FAST 92.
Can someone point me to as low-profile of a 90-degree fitting as possible? I figure I will find the width of the intake and tap it, so a male threaded end and a hose end.
What I am going to do is remote mount the MAP sensor under the passenger side fuel rails. I did this with my Coupe and it has worked fine for years with boost, but I did it with the first fitting I could find at the store and even that was close enough to rub the cowl sometimes. This was still far preferable to the way the MAP sensor would have sat back there. The one I see on the new Z has the MAP directly in the intake, and when I popped it off the back you can see where the reddish rubber nipple has been gouged and chewed because it keeps riding the cowl so much.
IIRC, I believe I used RTV on the coupe. Is there something better to use? Maybe a cement if I find a plastic fitting?
Got any pictures of what you did on your coupe? I have heard of people drilling/tapping the rear MAP location to 1/4" NPT but have not tried it myself. I assume a 1/4" NPT elbow is what you'd want, though. You can get a separate 90deg street elbow and hose barb and end up with something pretty low profile.
That's my driver for the moment since my daily needs work and the Z is my priority since show and track season are about to start. I don't have pictures, sorry. My best recollection is likely 1/4" npt. I do remember it being brass or copper like that. And npt makes sense as I recall for making a good fit. Though in my head I wonder if I went with 3/8. Remember, the hole allows space for the rubber grommet on the sensors.... so it may have been bigger like that.
