The 2003 is the first auto tranny Vette I've had. I keep reading about how great aftermarket torque converters are but can't say that I really understand why. Also what is the difference in the various ones offered as far as stall speeds, etc.?
Re: Please educate me on torque converters (MaxPower)
They make autos go fast... If you ever want to take one for spin let me know. I have a 2800 stall in mine.
:yesnod:
I'd love to go for a spin. Actually, I live in Sugar Land also. I'd still like to get the specifics on what they do and what would be the right one for my needs.
Converters come from mild to wild. The lower stall the more like stock it will feel (tight). The higher it goes the more loose it feels, like the give it gas and it does not want to go, trans slipping feel.
Re: Please educate me on torque converters (CorvetteSS)
Thanks for the link. It did answer my question about how they work. Now how do I decide which one is right for me?
It's a comprimise between how loose how a converter you can deal with, and how much you want to take off your E.T. I have a SY3500 and a 3.15 rear which feels very loose, but doesn't bother me one bit. Next time it'll be at least a 3800 or 4000 stall.
Re: Please educate me on torque converters (REDGAR)
Also the higher stall you want the more $$ seems to be an unwritten rule I am noticing. not that I have much of the $$ to mention these days anyhow :nonod:
Re: Please educate me on torque converters (lostsoulny)
Not if you buy used. Many times guys will put on converter in and for one reason or another go to another in a few months. I put my current converter after it's pervious owner had it a month and 7 passes.
My prior converter, Pro Troque 2900, is now for sale pretty cheap. Let me know if you are interested.
