This was from my passenger seat too. Only sat in a handful of times. Wasn’t rocking at all but I figured I’d do them both while they were out of the car. Couldn’t believe how bad it was.
Not to defend GM really, since so many, many poor decisions were made (and continue to be made), but all polyurethanes degrade over time. Different polymers degrade in different manners and times depending on environments and exposures. When they made the cushions they were undoubtedly using a material they thought would last 10 years, and would provide the gentle seat setting they desired. They just chose wrong on the polymer.

I have a 2001 boxster as well. No seat rock. “Polymer” or not. I’m not an engineer. But their choice of products doesn’t work.
In my 2006 Vette, I had a G M cargo 3 bin solid piece in my car that I remodeled into my 2019 G S. Do they still offer this - I don't know but look into it.
I am on my 3rd vette. The cargo nets have been a life saver along with the security shades. The lower one will catch any large objects while smaller once and groceries I keep in the cargo net.
I learned my lesson early on when my wifes glass tupperware slammed into my arm duing a hard panic stop. On my c6, it was just a flap for the shade, so inhad modified it with a metal rod and some elastic straps so it could catch things from flying to the front. The c7 shade clips in so larger items will be kept in back.
I think that my C6 had slightly more space but I'm completely happy with the C7 storage capacity. When I make my drive to Florida in the Fall, I load it up!
Those look great. I looked into aftermarket seats, but ultimately wanted to keep the car stock looking. Although stock rebuild is costing me $2k.
$2k??? You must be be replacing the leather skins also but $2k is still high.
The kit is like $10 per seat on eBay. I just did my 99's driver seat this winter. Kind of a pain in the butt to do but no more sliding seat. Of the stock four spacers I think I found just .75 of one. Where the other 3.25 spacers went is anyone's guess. Evaporation
