Default Bleeding Clutch VIA Intake Removal?

If anyone has tried done this, can you tell me the black magic required to reach the bleeder? I yanked the intake, crank sensor (or cam sensor?), and oil pressure sender. No possible way to get back there, and I've got fairly small hands.

Am I missing something, or is this just a massive waste of time?

It's been awhile since I last did this, but raising the vehicle up a couple feet and going underneath from the driver's side and reaching up and around with a box wrench will get you access to the bleed screw... In this particular instance I duct taped a broom handle to the clutch pedal and pulled the far away end of the handle backwards towards me with the top of my right foot in order to depress the clutch pedal and let the old fluid out. Re-tightening the screw, letting the pedal return, then repeating the process again and again (with a few trips "topside" to refill the reservoir) until I was satisfied the system was purged of air.

From there I've just used the "Ranger Method" periodically to siphon off the dark looking brake fluid from the reservoir in order to replace it with fresh fluid ever since... Not exactly a high-tech approach, but it worked. As you'd would have guessed having someone to help you greatly speeds things up - and while you're in there now would be a good time to install a remote clutch bleeder if you're thinking about getting one so the next time will be much easier.

Good luck!

Jeff

kalayaan12,

You are a better man than I am. I could not get my hands to get to the bleeder to save my life. I have fairly small hands and I couldn't touch it. I went ahead and pulled the whole transmission torque tube and rear end. Did a bunch of other things "while I was in there," but now I know my clutch fluid will remain clean.

Why does Chevrolet design this car so you have to do this sort of torture in order to get fresh clutch fluid?
