I'm replacing my ignition switch. I read something has to be programed at the dealer when you replace the switch, for the chip on the key I guess. My question is whats affected? Just you're comfort settings? I'll be able to start the car when I install it, right?
You just replace the switch itself. The original key cylinder is re connected to the new switch. No reprogramming or changed settings. It should start right up.
There are multiple procedures for this replacement detailed starting in section 8 page 570 of the (2001) Factory Service Manual. It would serve you to have the manual for your car available. If you don't, I can scan and post that section from my 2001 manual. It will be several pages.
