Default Colder intake temperature mod

Have been searching for a way to lower intake air temps. Intake air was 117 degrees with temp outside 100. With my redneck engineering skills I came up with this. Let me know what you think. Reused stock air box lid and filter. If this works well I'll drop a K&N instead of paper filter. So far my temps are only 3 degrees difference at most driving.

I’d say you’re onto something and for quite a good savings as well. Your “concept” is the same as that of the Calloway Honker intake setup (google it) Their intake requires modification of the shroud similar to what you’ve done so the intake air is drawn from the cooler portion in front of the radiator, separate from the engine bay. The CH kit is proven to provide a nice power increase, much of which I imagine is from the reduced IATs.

Im interested to see how you adapt what you’ve done to an air box and the throttle body. Do you plan to try and use the OEM air bridge also?

Actually I have an AirRaid intake. The shroud and filter are just used to let air into the air box. I should have posted a pic of it. I'll get one up. Thanks for the response!

Interesting concept, makes sense! I am sure you’ll see a reduction in IATs. More so when you’re moving, but an improvement nonetheless!

Do you think you really need the extra air filter since you already have the AirRaid intake? You could go with just the opening in the shroud or put a mesh screen over it.

I agree with you. I think it’d be just as effective to leave the hole in the shroud open, but the filter will assist with keeping the dust out. I modified my shroud with a hole under the filter. It works really well with keeping IATs down, but my engine bay requires cleaning regularly. (I have OCD with cleanliness though so this may not bother other people) I also have the fog light cavities in the bumper open with Z06 screens. I was going for as much fresh air in the engine bay as possible.

Cut the license plate out
Install some good vents and you're done.

My efforts documented here. Recently serviced the K&N and surprised how little dirt was in it...

i think you would get better results getting rid of the airraid air cleaner and using the factory lid or even a fbody lid like this http://www.slponline.com/product/210...r-Box-Lid.html

that way the lid seals tight to the shroud and you're getting air from inside the shroud that the engine isn't warming
