Default Power Antenna help

I want to replace the mast on my power antenna on my 04 convertible.. I loosened the nut , the rubber grommet is very tight and I didn’t want to mess it up.. Can someone tell me the best way to get it to come off ? Thanks..

The rubber part stays on when replacing mast. Follow these instructions. Took me less than ten minutes.

Just replaced the mast on mine last night. The old one was mostly missing (darn previous owners...), just had the sleeve and 3 inches of the largest OD section. But no cable or anything. This was it:

I disassembled the whole thing, partially for "fun" (I'm a Mechanical Engineer, after all), but also to verify everything inside looked fine. I chose to manually wind the mast cable which worked out great.

I replaced mine too , ended up taking the motor out too. Got everything back together and it works perfectly. The new mast is shorter than the original, but reception is fine.

Did you end up removing the grommet? I removed mine, took a bit of persuasion. Was more difficult to reinstall the grommet with the antenna pre-inserted in it (seemed like the best option).

No , I left it in. The grommet going into the trunk was a bit of a pain.

Default Replaced a broken mast years ago and had to dissasemble the motor

My mast broke with some of the mast left inside the motor, Got the motor out thru the tail light holes and drilled out the plastic rivets holding the motor together. Relubricated the motor and used 3 self tapping screws to hold the motor together. Got my new mast at ANTENNAMASTSRUS.COM for about $20. They were very helpful on the phone and have pictures and instructions on their website.
I wrote this up in detail many years ago on here so look in the archives for details, New mast still works well many years down the pike.
