Hi all
I recently inherited my late father's 97 C5. I'm looking for general tips and advice on how to properly care for and preserve this car. I have not spent much time in this car, but would like to honor my father but keeping his favorite car in the best possible condition. It has 90,000 miles on it and has spent its lifetime in Anchorage, Alaska.
Here are the issues I am aware of:
Heater module display does not work
Engine temp gets hot in low gears and when going up hills.. does fine on highways
Driver seat is basically collapsed and needs to be redone.. no cushion to it at all
Emergency brake doesn't hold
AC doesn't work
Any general tips, advice, words of wisdom or warning would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome, everything you have listed can be fixed but you will have to spend some money. The motors in these cars can easily go 200,000 miles, some have gone much farther. There is one on display at Bowling Green with over 700,000 miles. Unfortunately the weakness of the C5 is in the electronics. I have a 99 that I have had for 20 years and I always worry about something electrical going out and not being repairable. Lets hope the aftermarket can keep us going for many years.
