Pulled my Water Pump - How to get gasket materiall off of block?
I took my 1998 'Vert out of storage, renewed my license plate tab, put a new 18 lb. radiator cap on - and my water pump promptly failed!
So much for cruising around on the July 4th weekend
When I yanked the old water pump off the black paper gaskets split neatly in half... one half stayed stuck to the old water pump, and the other half stayed stuck onto the block!
Getting in there and scraping the gasket off is kind of tough by the P/S pump area - is there some kind of solvent I can put on the paper and let it sit overnight instead?
Any advise appreciated!
Thank-you!
Jeff

Make sure you use the metal gaskets with the silicone rubber impregnated on them. Do not use the paper ones that came with the pump. The parts stores have the good gaskets. If you use the paper ones, they will fail in short order.
