I just had an X-pipe installed with an 02' Zo6 exhaust and I thought it would be louder with no cats but it actually quite tame. Like barely louder than my stock C5 setup w/ cats.
I am wondering if there might be pre-cats on my car?
I would just go look but it is soaking wet at the moment and my curiosity is killing me. :)
I do notice a decent power increase though. The car pulls much harder throught the rpm range and I can even light up the tires with ease now.
I thought there were only 2 cats because those were the most visable and I could have sown that I looked up into the sides of the motor and didn't see any others because my T/A had them tucked beside the motor, not under the car like on the C5.
BUT I have been messing with a bunch of cars lately and forgot what the hell it looked like under my C5. :( I'm a dork, I know.
I had the cats cut off right where they come down from the motor and start to flatten out where the head of the long H-pipe starts. I had the X-pipe installed from there till just past the rear 02's. This is how it was done on my buddies 02' Z06 except he has TPIS headers and his car while not reral loud it sounds simply awesome!
I was hearing so many m ixed things that I decided to jack it up and look again, I even unbolted the exhaust at the manifolds so I could stick something down the odd-looking tubes right before the first cats and there was nothing there. So, my car has only 2 cats and no pre-cats. I should have thought about the fact that this car originally came from Georgia so didn't have to worry about strict emmisions. :)
This explains why it feels soo much faster now that all the cats are gone.
Thank all of you for your help. :)
I think I am going to go to the track 1 more time to see if I can pull a 12.7 or so before the Vig2800 goes in. :)
