My Stock '02 (Z51 suspension) w/EMT runflats has never wheel hopped if I launch from 2,500 rpm. If I go below that, then it may or may not happen depending on the road surface. Believe me, you guys in southern climates are spoiled, we have every sort of road surface know to man up here and you never know what type of hook up you are going to get.
It seems like wheel hop is a big issue, I have not had it but maybe that is due to the Z51 suspension, or maybe it is because I am not running the quarter and don't care if I error on the side of smoking away from a light. Anyway, bumping up the lauch RPM may help. Don't be scared. Read an article by GM pro corvette Driver, John H., specifying the ideal lauch RPM at 2,800. I set the needle at 2,500 and then press hard with the right foot while simultaneously letting up with the left.
Anyway, I have 5,000 miles of aggressive driving on the OEM run flats with no complaints, but based on what I keep hearing in the forum, I am looking forward to trying the non runflats. I am going to go with the Z06 size BFG KD's on the stock wheels.
"John H" doesn't have to pay to have his clutch replaced, I'll bet. To get the best times launching at 2800, you have to feather the clutch. The C5 clutch doesn't like too much of that. I make this point because while you are not using this technique for 1/4 times, I'm sure John H is.

It isn't the Z51 - I had it on my coupe and it still wheel hopped sometimes. The Z06's will do it to, and they have stiffer suspension than the Z51.
