Default Testing a 2000 C5 SWPS......

Good morning guys. I have a 2000 C5 with a few electrical issues. I cant get at this particular problem til I chase down my A/C problem (s), which I'm in the process of doing. But if I know the procedure, I'll do it at a later date. Anyway, due to having a previous serious neck injury, I can no longer get under the dash to test anything. I'm wondering if you can center the steering wheel position sensor by testing any wires in a different area, say behind the steering wheel, or near the multifunction switch. If I could do that, I think I could disconnect steering from the rack, then turn it until I get the 2.3v-2.5v. Then turn front wheels to match the steering column, and reassemble. If the sensor is bad, is there any aftermarket replacement avaiable-Yet? I know its discontinued by GM. Any help much appreciated. Thank you all.......

You might be able to use a VOMt and a 5V source to the the center blue wire of the SWPS to test the for the 2.4V center point but that is just a WAG. Otherwise you might have to find a shop that knows Corvette diagnostics and has a Tech2 to dial it in. Also, you might check with some of the parts sellers who sell centered SWPS that have been used.

Found this from some of my old saved posts--The hard part would be to unplug the SWPS harness from the steering column and plugging it into the used one you want to put in.

Plug the Tech2 into the OBD2 receptor

"With the used SWPS plugged into the harness and the ignition switch on....

Probe the analog signal wire with VOM (LtBlue wire Harness pin #6) and spin the SWPS' inner shaft section until you see ~2.5v on the meter.

Now move to the LtBlue wire in Pin#4 and slowly move the SWPS until you read ~12v.

Now move to to the LtGreen wire in Pin #3 and gently move the sensor until you read ~12v.

*You will move between Pin #3 and Pin #4 until both read ~the same voltage (which should be about 12v). Once you have this, check to ensure you still have ~2.5v on Pin #6.

This is the centered position. You should also check the voltages once you've positioned the sensor during the install, to ensure it is still centered."
