Default Headlight Motor Replacement Part

Ordered drivers side headlight actuator replacement OEM part number 1927409 A-Type for my 2000 Coupe. Original part number being replaced is 16523673LH.
Bolt pattern on replacement part is completely different. Is there a different version of this part?

Could it be that you ordered a driver's side unit and got a passenger's side one instead?

There are 2 type of headlight motors. One for "1997 to early 2000" and another for "late 2000 to 2004". It might be that your car came with the first type and now you got the second type, but they are easy to differentiate:
  • The 97 to early 2000 motor assembly is all aluminum and has a removable side cover that is held on with 3 machine screws.
  • The late 2000 to 2004 headlight motor assemblies are plastic and the side cover is glued on.

In any case, early motors (aluminum assembly) and late motors (plastic assembly) are totally interchangeable. You can install one in place of the other without any worries.

If you have an aluminum motor, replacing the plastic gear with a brass one is very easy. It's a matter of just removing 3 screws, replacing the gear and internal rubber isolator, and screwing back the cover. You can save some money going this way and you'll know it was properly done

What a coincidence. My driver's side headlight motor is broke (stuck in the down position) and I need to fix it.

I've been looking around for the best price on parts, and there are some 2000-2004 driver's side motors listed on Amazon for less than $100. But if you look at the reviews, several people have complained about the exact same issue. Part doesn't fit, bolt pattern is incorrect. I think these cheap ones are made in China.

Rock Auto has them for about $200, but I think they're genuine AC Delco. That's probably where I will order from.

How much of a pain in the *** is it to swap the motor ? Couple hours work ?

Your last paragraph covers the problem well.

GCG, You're the Man! Exactly right. I do have the early version and with the screw cap it will be a breeze to replace the gear. Thank you! Gusmaninaz

Glad to be of service!

Get a kit like this one (pay attention because there are 2 different kits: one for "97 to early 2000" and another for "late 2000 to 2004"). You'll save money and they will last forever.

It would be wise to replace as well the rubber bump stops in both sides (#4 in diagram below). You can get them here.

There is a TSB, that calls for shimming the driver's side motor. The parts needed for this are included in the above mentioned kit (#2 in diagram below).

Is not really that bad. You have a 2000, so yours could be either one. If they are the aluminum ones, replacing the broken plastic gear is really easy, as mentioned above.

If they are the plastic ones with glued cover, it's still very doable. Just follow these step-by-step directions. You'll save money and they will last forever.

The kit I linked in the previous Post includes a steel T- Brace with plastic bushing to reinforce the motor after glueing back the cover. It is designed to take away the forces from the gearbox plastic cover, especially each time the motor reaches its travel ends (which are hit very hard). It prevents the glue from failing.

If you still prefer to buy new ones, check this Thread for another interesting possibility while saving some money.

Before you buy a new or rebuilt motor consider doing the rebuild yourself. It is an easy job and you can actually do both motors in a couple of hours in and out. If it is the first time you have taken them out it may take a bit longer but it is not difficult.
