Default C5 recomendations

Hi Everyone, proud new owner of a black 98 C5. Auto/convertable with 97k mi, not really what I was looking for but it was a good deal and I liked it so I didnt want to pass it up. Has a few things with it cosmetically but I'm pretty sure I can handle a good portion of it myself. Alredy done a little bit of research but hoping to get some pointers from you all!

Things that need attention: oil pressure sender unit needs replacing, replacement sun visors, seat tracks dont seem to lock, seems to slide back and forth a little while accelerating or braking, seat leather of course, door lock buttons are intermitent, horn from steering wheel doesnt work, window regulators need replacing. Antenna does not work (will likely replace with a stubby) I noticed the AC fan seems to have an odd buz when on too. I'd also like nice double din stereo w/ bluetooth and backup camera (1.5 would be ideal if they exist??).

If you guys can point me in the right direction to sort these out and good prices or good units that would be very appreciated, hoping to tackle these asap. Ive also noticed the windows seems to be eating at the convertable top in the corners, is this something I can adjust? Also, it seems most maintenance has been done per the manual, but it hasnt hit 100k yet, anything you guys recommend changing or inspecting on a 20 yr old car? Didnt see any record of trans/dif fluid change....?

Any comments, recommendations, tips would be greatly Appreciated!! Once I sort these out I'll probably start looking at some performance mods!
Thnaks again in advance!

Welcome to the forum, you will find a great deal of very good information here. The first thing I'd suggest is that you get familiar with how to use the advanced search feature on here to dig in directly into the C5-technical forum. There are a ton of responses regarding the oil sender unit and what and how to replace it the two big things to know is one install the remote locator kit, (makes it easier to replace next time), and second use an original GM sensor not an aftermarket. Most of the long term members will reply to a post when you have asked a question and have also done some minimum research to determine if you can figure it out on your own. Welcome aboard an enjoy your new ride.

O'h yea the winning in the right seat is not the car it is your wife because you are going too fast.

Welcome to the forum. I'd suggest from your list the first thing I'd address is the seat rocking problem. There's a fix for that and I've done it. There's nothing worse than buying a new to you car and not being held tight as you accelerate, brake and take hard turns. There's a youtube video and other info available. Look up "Rocking seat fix" and you'll find it. It takes time but is cheap to fix. I'd like to offer that I have a set of low mile (50k mile) original black "sport" seat skins I'm planning on selling. They have no rips or tears and are OEM. Would be a great time to replace yours at the same time as fixing the seat rock problem as you need to pull the seats to fix. PM me if interested. Good luck in your new adventure!

Sorry, I'm still getting used to this forum stuff. I have already researched the oil sender unit (google), doesn't look to bad and the window regulators either.
Mostly what I'm looking for is preventative maintenance or stuff that that may fail soon, stuff that makes sense to change at 100k? I guess I should flush the trans and replace the plugs. I've read the differential as well.. is that necessary? Should I worry about the fuel filter?

Thanks for the feedback though!

Others may disagree here but don’t worry about the fuel filter if it’s not giving you problems although from what I understand the early C5 years are easy to replace. The differential is another matter. I’d say if you don’t know if it’s been serviced then it’s good maintenance to swap it out. I’d also do all of the fluids if you don’t know the last time they’ve been done. Use a good synthetic fluid in the diff and trans. If you replace the plugs, and I think you should, order new plug wires and do those with the plugs.

Btw, welcome to the corvette world and I hope you really enjoy the car.

Rgr, planning on doing the Oil Sender unit first, probably spark plugs and I'll add plug wires to the list as well. As far as Trans and diff fluid, im not sure if i should consider a flush or just a change.. I've heard mixed reviews. I'm not sure if its ever been done, had no record from PO but he picked it up around 55k miles, so its possible. A flush makes more sense but i dont want to increase risk in damaging a car i just picked up..?

Also would appreciate some recommendation on good synthetics and a good trans filter and where to purchase? What are some good reputable websites? I've heard some have websites but aren't really in business any more..

The guys already mentioned the oil sender relocation kit and seat track fix. If you do these yourself its should be under $100. I just did the oil sender relocation kit from parts that another member listed on this site from Summit Racing. You do have to remove the intake manifold, but its an easy job and will be much easier the next time the sender goes bad. The other thing I would suggest is searching the window regulator "whack method" My window stopped working and this method got it working fine again. The just tend to get stuck.....Now this was a free fix so it was nice...Good luck

Sweet, definitely going to try the "whacking" method! And I might just do the sender relocation, makes sense I suppose! Thanks for the help guys.
