On my 2000 I had a fuel guage reading of between a 1/4 and 1/2. In an instant it dropped to empty and low fuel warning came on. Went to station and put 10.5 gallons to fill it. So I had around 8 gal left. After fill up everything went back to normal. Set trip meter to see when it happens again. Don't really feel like pulling tank to replace sending unit. Any suggestions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Run a bottle of Techron with premium fuel. I had the same issue. That returned my gage to functional. Apparently it is a good practice to run a bottle every few fill ups. Could be worth a try.
Add some Techron concentrate next time it happens, seems you have some deposits on the fuel sending units it could be on the right side or left side, a DTC should have been set, and it will tell you what side the problem occurred, common occurrence with C5's, many posts and write ups on this problem.
You don't have to drop the tank on a 2000. There are panels on front of wheel well and back of gas tank.
I agree with Techron recommendation but sometimes you eventually have to replace a sender anyway. Happened to me.
Be advised that the gauge symptoms can also be caused by failure of the jet pump to transfer fuel from right to left tank, leaving you out of gas. Happened to me.
