Good day everyone,
We have a 2000 automatic coupe and the key warning chime isn't behaving the way the owners manual says it should.
With the key in the ignition, and the driver's door open, and the key in the OFF position, it chimes as it should.
When you move the key to the ACC position, the chime STOPS. The owners manual says it should still be on.
The car has had two column lock services done years ago. Specifically, it had the 89023816 harness K installed, as well as an ECM flash done.
I'm wondering if any of you with automatics AND having had the column lock recall done can check this behavior for me with YOUR car. Put the key in, turn it to ACC, and see if the chime still happens with the door open.

I just checked my '98 automatic. With the door open and the key merely inserted into the ignition, I get a rapid chiming. With the door open and the key turned to ACC I get a slower chiming that stops after about 10 seconds. One exception: The steering wheel is in the locked position - it is locked and cannot be turned - and this car has not had either the column lock recall done or a LMC5 installed... When the key is turned to the ACC position the column lock switches off. I have never had any message regarding "wait 10 seconds etc". Hope this helps....
bc6152, did you have your seatbelt buckled there? If not, that second chime was likely for the seatbelt. Would you mind trying it again with the seatbelt buckled please?

OK, so here's how it went: Open driver's door, insert key and fast chime. Turn key to ACC, slow chime, "door ajar" and chime stops in about 10 seconds. The red seat belt indicator light is lit. Connect seat belt and the indicator light goes off, still no chime. "door ajar" still indicated... No chiming. Turn key to off position - door still open - fast chime. Remove key and chime stops... Anything else you want me to try let me know...
