I recently bought my first convertible 2001 with 39k miles and i love her. I'm the 3rd owner and the previous owner added headers, and anti sway, as far as i see.
My problem is after a jaunt up a hill, 20 mins, she starts kicking like a mule into the next gears after reaching the top. She'll be completely fine after i shut her down and restart.
We've been on a 1 to 2 hour drives on flats, curves, and she does just fine. Highway trips with no problem.
Soo, to me she has something when a load is placed, but it's the "all clear" when i cycle the key that throws me. Could it be computer programming from prev owner, or sensor, or help?
Welcome to the Forum and on your purchase !!...kind of tough to diagnose over the Internet without getting some data...I'd first see what DTC's (codes) you have possibly stored by assessing them through the DIC and take it from there...you may have a dirty fuel filter, weak fuel pump, dirty MAF sensor to name a few....gets expensive if you start firing the "parts canon" !!!...it's BEST to have a scan tool to read some Data Pids to give you some "direction" !!
Is there not a way to read error codes from the DIC without purchasing a scan tool, or more expensive solution? You could always go to Autozone and they will read back your codes. Sounds to me that your AT has some issues.

I took her up the hill and she did it again. My codes were 1870- trans, and 102-maf. I'm wondering if it has to do with adding a KnN air intake recently. The check engine came on going 63mph up the hill and as i 'applied the gas' to pass a car, i felt it. So, could it be the maf?
And thank you for the quick reply and welcome

There is a TSB which addresses the P1870 but it only covers the 96-99 model years...other than checking fluid level this issue is best left in the hands of an expert...as far as the P102 with the K&N filter I'd remove the MAF and try to clean it...I don't know if you had oiled it or it came new pre-oiled...if that doesn't work there is some wiring we can look at but not sure if you have a DVOM and are confident in its use.
