I just put these on. The were 1100ohms each. The stock ones were 300ohms each. The vette manual states anything over 600-700ohms should be replaced. What gives here. Are the Magnacors going to cause any issues???????
One cannot go by a wires rating using a volt ohm meter to determine performance. This is a marketing ploy. Just think how much resistance there is in the air gap on your spark plug. That alone totally negates a variance in R, in the plug wires.
When you fire 40KV down the wire, difference principles of physics apply. Electrons begin to shear out to the outside of the conductor and on into a magnetic field, in what is called skin effect. Cheap wires, use resistive enhancing coatings to that break down sooner rather than later, and cause arching and EMF, and poor performance. Magnecor microsopically winds thier wires 200 wires per inch eliminating the need for cheap coatings. With that said, often times, actually more resistance, means a better performing plug wire when high voltage is fired down it. It all depends on the quality of construction.
Magnecor wires are good wires BUT the ends that are inserted into the coils are very poorly designed. The coil end of the wires arent centered and will just about always divert to the side when trying to install into the coils. Make sure you take your time and get them to snap onto the electrode in the coils and then they wont come off. I ended up pulling the wire out of the boot just a little, then attaching it onto the coil electrode, then just slide the boot up. Its a real pain but this way I knew for sure that they were connected.
I bought those wires to replace stock when Cartek did my head/cam job. They couldnt get the wires to stay on which caused issues. Finally, they took them off and put the stock ones back on - no problem since.
Be careful with the Taylor wires. Mine work great but cause noise with the radio.
Seems like this noise does not happen with all cars, so you may be ok.
If I had to do it again, I would get wires that I could get the stock metal boot protector over.
I have never had issues with the magnecors staying on the coils, just make sure they snap on fully. They use the stock delco boots on the plug side, so no issues there.
Regarding the taylors. I too got noise in the radio after they were on for a while. This goes back to what I alluded to above about the quality of the wire, and the if it uses coatings (which is the cheap way to do it). I spoke with Taylor a long while back, and they told me they have about 80 windings per inch, with coatings, again, alternativly, the magnecors have 200 per inch, with no need for coatings. Thus no EMF issues.
