Got under my 03 Vert today for the first time since purchase about 3 months ago. The driver side rear shock has a pretty significant leak. This is the F55 selective ride control system.
Based on the photos, do I need to look into replacing this shock? My intention is to keep the vehicle 100% stock, so I'll bite the bullet and shell out for a replacement F55. Do they need to be replaced in pairs (or, God forbid, on all 4 corners at the same time)?
I replaced mine as they were needed.and the rears are not as expensive as the fronts. You should be around $350 to $450. They are not as uncommon as they once were so the price has come down somewhat.
nou're going to pay $350 plus install fees if you don't change it yourself for one shock? and in maybe a year the rest will leak? I have a black check I need you to sign as well hahaha

It's 3 bolts and about 20 minutes to install. And I'll deal with the rest when I have to.
How is the leaking shock affecting the way the car drives. I have the F55 and my rear shocks have started to leak. The ride seems not to be affected so I have not replaced them yet. The lifetime warranty maybe makes it worthwhile to replace them now and may be good insurance.

Definitely rides a lot harder - the leak in that shock is significant - like dripping - so it was definitely time to replace. The other 3 are a little damp but not really leaking yet.

The thing about leaking shocks is that they rarely leak suddenly. Unless damaged externally, what you get is a slow degradation until eventually seals don't hold properly. This often takes 50-100k miles. You've been feeling a shock that gets worse and worse for fifteen years - gradually. When you swap to a fresh set, you'll feel an immediate difference. Of course, even more so if you swap to a different set.
Completed the replacement of the leaky F55 shock last weekend, not a difficult job at all - just obnoxious trying to compress the replacement shock so you can fit it in place.
I believe the ride quality is considerably better than before - especially given that it was the driver side rear shock, which sits right behind me. I think it was worth the expense; others think it's a waste of money. In the end, I'm happy so that's all that matter to me!
Oh, I should have mentioned compression. People recommend zip ties. I find ratchet straps to work WAY better. Makes compression of the shock a one minute job.
