Ignition cylinder recode

Is it possible to recode a new ignition cylinder and key out of the car? The key to my car no longer makes a good connection and has left me stranded a few times.

Do you mean that the key is so worn out that it no longer can turn the car's lock cylinders, or it does, but the VATS is causing you problems?

If the latter, have you tried cleaning the key's pellet with alcohol?

If your key works fine turning the lock cylinders and you only have 1 key, you can make duplicates:

Using a multimeter, measure the resistance of your key pellet.
Check the chart below and find the corresponding VATS No.
Buy a blank with the correct VATS for your car (Google will help you )
Make a duplicate in the place of your choice
