I have a 2002 Convertible that has had the C1233 code come up for a few years. I finally took it to a shop to diagnose it and they said I needed a ABS module. I sent it to ABS Fixer, when I got it back and reinstalled it the code still came up. My next step was to swap the short wheel speed harness from right to left but the same C1233 code came back. It's hard to believe that with such low mileage there would be a hub issue. The car has about 9,000 mile on it and has never been in the rain or any weather. I added some dielectric grease to the wheel
speed harness as well but that didn't help. Am I on the hook for a new hub? And thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated !!
Sorry to hear you're have WSS issues !!...first off dielectric grease is NOT what you want to use on these connectors...the grease is an INSULATOR and will not enhance the connection...use something like Deoxit Gold or if you can afford it Stabilant 22...probably the best contact enhancer on the market...since you swapped the short harness it may be the hub or maybe even the section of harness from the EBCM to the short harness...you have to get in there and check the circuit by doing the old "wiggle test"...I'd also check both terminal connections at the EBCM...good luck !!
I cleaned and dielectric greased all grounds, all four speed sensor connectors at the wheels in 2010 and have continued to dielectric grease every connector that I disconnect for any reason since then on my C5, including R&R intake manifold twice, R&R fans, blower motor, relocate oil pressure sender and other minor repairs. I have been doing the same on my F 250 since 1998 and have never had a contact that has been troublesome after using dielectric grease. I believe that dielectric grease does not interfere at all with contact, but does prevent corrosion of the contact for an extended time.
My tube of Permatex Dielectric Grease says on the back in part, "Coat both parts of terminal contact with Dielectric Grease."
For the above reasons I think your problem is more likely not related to using dielectric grease but could be a faulty wire circuit/ harness or bad connector pin not making contact,
C1233 is "RF WHEEL SPEED CIRCUIT OPEN OR SHORTED" on my list of codes. I would first test the connector on the RF wheel hub with an ohm meter to see if the wires or hub are shorted and then closely examine the connectors and wiring which is visible under the car.
Thanks for everyone's input. I will take a look at the main harness that the pigtail connects too as well as the WSS connection.
AC clutch crapped out already too so lots to do on a car that has barely been driven!
While doing research on my own C1232 code in my '00 coupe I ran across this video from Wells Tech Garage on the proper methods to prove which component is at fault for the code and codes related to the speed sensors at each wheel:
. I found it very logical and methodical in finding and proving which component is at fault before changing any parts. Lucky for me though my issue was a disconnected plug.
