Lost oil pressure

Default Lost oil pressure

Hello I have a 1999 C5 coupe manual transmission, Thompson Motorsport heads, comp cam and supporting mods. Tonight I was doing a pull at the track, Car did fine all the way up to 120 Mph and I let out and coasted, didn’t hear anything weird from engine then engine loped out, I tried re starting, it started up sounded like it didn’t want too but finally did, oil pressure was at 5-7 psi now though when driving would get up to about 15-19 psi but then when coasting engine would shut off, I got it turned back on for the second time and limped it home. Now waiting till Monday to get in in to the shop, any ideas what this could be though? Thanks Jonas

I just picked up my first C5. My first LS one. I’m no specialist but aren’t there three things that can cause this? Failed oil pump/stuck with the bypass valve open, worn out bearings or Spun bearings, faulty pressure sensor. subbed to hear what shop says

Mileage on pump? Would drain oil, cut filter and look for shavings. If there is debris, plan on tear down. If oil and filter were clean would be looking at the pump.

There was a silent recall on the early oil pumps (99-00 as I recall). I started mine up, when I as 300 miles from home, and had zero pressure. Fortunately my daughter/sun-in-law had there Corvette there on a trailer and I drove theirs home. Chevy dealer said oil pump was bad but the replacement was covered. The was in 2002 on my 2000 Corvette with 14000 miles and a month out of warranty.
