Default Another Air Intake Question

I've orederd a VaraRam Air Intake and am waiting for delivery. Meanwhile my neighbor (owns 2 Vettes) says I should install a low temp thermostat at the same time since I'll have parts off anyway. Does this do much good? I only drive over 90 occasionally on open roads... :chevy

You do live in AZ so it might be a good idea. I personally wouldn't go any cooler than a 172 thermostat. I'm sure the winters can be kind of cool in the desert and if you go with too cold of a thermostat, your car will not be able to get warm enough to get the heater going effectively. HP wise, you will not see any difference on a dyno. You would be better of removing the screens inside the MAF. They were worth 3 hp on my friends '02 Z28. Unfortunately I had already pulled mine before my first dyno run.

Not really needed, and will not do much good. If you just want to "fiddle", stick with the 172/178 stat. Remember, this is the temp at which it opens, and that your coolant temp will bw much the same when warm, unless you turn on the fans sooner. :smash: :)

I don't see how Vette's would be much different but in my T/A I run a 160deg thermo and even with my fans set for 180 I still run about 180-190 durring the hot summer.

Durring winter months I run about 175-180 as long as I don't jump on it. :)

BUT if you are worried about it then a 172 would be just fine. Anything is better than a 190+ :)
