Guess I will have to do a full rebuild. I do not wish to go with an iron block build though. I hope my block will still be usable. Do you guys know an average ruff cost to have a block machine, honed, alignment hone, and cam bearing replacement?
I am thinking my block, LS2 TB, my new TSP Torquer V2 cam, new Comp Cams lifters, LUK LS7 clutch, and the 225 PRC 60cc heads I have matched to a stroker kit for 383ci and a FAST 92mm intake would be a nice package and work with my otherwise stock drive train.
Opinions?

Give John Llewellyn a call iin Knoxville. He usually has a couple of LS1s seating in his shop. (865 604 0498)
I think I saw two setting in the corner of his shop the other day. I'm sure he'll sell one outright, or install one for you.
He's a great guy and knows more about C5s than most so called GM mechanics.
Yuk that is no fun, sorry for the troubles.
I would do as others have said, find a local competent shop or 3 & talk through the options with them. Total cost out the door may be very reasonable especially if your engine is mostly salvageable.
Care to share any details of what happened and what made you start digging in to see what was wrong?
sure does seem to be a lot of metal for a wiped cam lobe.
Sure, it started ticking and it at first sounded like an exhaust manifold leak. Then it changed from that to loud knocking. That was only 600 miles after getting it all back together and tuned. Dropped the oil and found the shavings and the needle bearing, so by size it had to be a lifter and that is what it sounded like knocking, so I pulled the valve covers and valley cover.
