Default Another CA emissions question

I am picking up my first vette (2003 Z06) in Atlanta a driving it to the San Jose area. I am being transferred there (Navy). I am having the car registered and licensed in FL (I am a state resident there). On my way to CA, I am stopping at Extreme Motorsports and having the FLP longtube header system installed along with a Blackwing and a power duct. Getting other stuff added but they have no bearing on my question.

I plan on playing the “military card” and keep my FL plates. Anyone think I will have problems with that, or be required to get smogged anyways? This will be my daily driver, so it will be seen on the streets regularly. Any advice or recommendations out there?

If you register it California, it will be checked and it will fail if you put your goodies on it.

If you can avoid the registration issue, then you avoid it.

We have plenty of military out here who drive legally with their home state plates, and they don't get smogged. If you ever go insane and elect to register in CA, however, each mod you have (that the smog station can see, anyway) needs a CARB (California Air Resources Board) exemption number. Some mods do have the exemption - ask the vendor.

By the way, thanks for your service to our country - we all owe you a lot.
