Default FLP pre-install inspection..........

Nice job on the packaging to protect all the parts.
All parts & instructions in the box.
Coating looks nice and even.
I sure do like the look and the design:D

I do have a concern on the "curfing in" of angled pipe & the jigging job done on the flange alignment(s)......

The AIR tubes could be a PITA to align (Degree angle &/or jig issue), inside the flange is not a smooth transition zone for the tube to flange weld. Not a clean "fairing in" job.
2 of the O2 bunges are not ground flush with the inside dia. of the tubes/header. All 4 should be cleanly faired into the surrounding inside pipe radius.
I was anyway, but the instruction do say to chase the O2 threads to assure ease of installation. I always do this with any new threads before assembly. Get any weld spatter/thread chatter marks/manufacturing crap out or YOU MAY DAMAGE YOUR O2 sensors during installation.
I have seen local guys have O2 issues, come to find out they were damaged while installing into unchased bungs.
On one of the X-pipe flanges on the back, the flange itself is cocked on the tube and has approx 1/8" sticking out from the flat flange face for 15 degrees rotation ....maybe a leak point. I may have grind it flat, I will check during initial fit-up.
I will post all the info once installed.
None of these issues will hurt performance, but it sure can be an install issue.
Pics will be up one day :D
Does anyone know if the Manufacturing tolerances include the coating thickness??
I am a Nuc in a Non-Nuc world..........this may pass with time

Steven,
I installed FLP's on my 01 coupe this weekend. I noticed some of the same "features" you found. The passenger side AIR was a PITA because of the flange angle. The cat flanges were rough but cleaned up nicely with a flat file. I didn't chase the O2 threads nor did I use antisieze as called for in the service manual. Hopefully the jet hot ceramic on the threads will prevent thread lock if I ever need to remove them. The header flange plates had a slight convex bow but flattened out when torqued. In spite of a few imperfections, I still rate these headers as a great value and have no buyer remorse whatsoever. Here is a link on jet hot coating. It has the thickness spec but I couldn't find the tolerance. Good luck on your install. The performance improvement was great!

Don't get me wrong, I got a good value and this will be the Easiest install of headers I have ever done and I have put on 25+ sets on all kinds of vehicles with all kinds of systems :D
If I wasn't sure of the FLPs, I sure would not have gotten them.
When I buy something, I do my homework!
I just want to make sure FLP gets feedback both pro & con.
I am in Quality Control, and the few small items I see here are easily fixed with attention to detail.
I have sent FLP this info too, I hope to see a responce next week.
They should be able to answer my tolerance question. I know the coating thickness. My question is more geared toward the potential tolerance stack-up.
Here are a couple of pics to show what I am taking about.
Julie asked last night "When are ya guna put them on honey?????", they sure look pretty, and should sound .... New tires again huh
I guess after the Turkey goes in, I will be under the lift :D

AT&NB, I love my FLP's. And although Dan Bills responded to all my queries about minor fitment problems during my install, I found FLP to be defensive when it came to "suggestions" concerning their product. I kept getting that "you must be doing something wrong" attitude.

Funny thing is, most of the issues I had with my set were fixed in "version 2" that they recently released.

I don't think you'll have any fitment issues. Once I figured out to make minor adjustments in my first-gen set, no problem. I've had them off a few times since doing other mods and they go back together fine now.

FLP was very defensive when I told them my headers arrived damaged. They told me I must have put them in wrong and damaged them. The tracking number confirmed that I called them within minutes of receiving them but they still gave me the "you damaged them" story. Mitch asked me to email him pics so he could see what they could do about it. I never got a response and after a few days I called them. Mitch told me he saw the pics (then why the hell did you never contact me?) and that maybe if i send the headers back(at my expense) they might be able to get it recoated for free. This was not acceptable so I posted my story on the forum. After a few hours of my story being up, I got a phone call from FLP and they told me a replacement set was on the way and they had a call tag to pick up the old set.

It is sad that you have to post on the forum for a company to listen to you. I am glad to hear that they have changed the way they are packed but I am a little disapointed they dont listen to the consumer with ideas and suggestions. My fit was pretty good and I didn"t have this new airtube issue. Only problems with mine were getting everything to line up and seal well and the o2 bungs were a little too far back. I love the headers but a little more attention to detail would make them the headers of choice for everyone.

So how were you able to take care of the "02 bungs too far back" problem? And the instructions specify to only hand tighten the V-clamps. I don't see how my finger strength can tighten anything when all the parts are connected, they're under tension/compression once aligned.

Thanks,

I had to buy a set of O2 extension harnesses from thunderracing.com but I heard they moved the bungs foward so you shouldn't have that problem.

Finger-tighten the v-clamps???

For the o2s, around the header, I pulled away the wire from the tie that keeps it to the body. I kept it out of the way of the header and then i pulled the slack all the way through and got just enough to get it into the rear bung.

I preassembled them last night.
All the weld penetrations look fine.
Everything fit/looks just fine :D
Clamp bolts 3 5/8" long
