So I take my car in for a ring job on the 4th. Dealer still has the car and calls me today to tell me that the #4 piston is cracked and they have to wait for a new one to arrive. What would have caused this to happen and what is the likely hood that this motor is ever going to be right. I have 26K miles. I drive aggressive but nothing that I would think is out of line.
OCMike I just noticed you’re in Newport. The dealer that is doing the work is Connell Chevy. What is a wideband Dyno is this different then a regular dyno? You also mentioned PCV blow by issue. Do you mean the PCV could have clogged up? There were no codes that I know of and the car ran good other then the oil consumption.

Re: Cracked Piston Help! (bigwave)
You are in the best hands at Connell Chevrolet. The Service Manager, Al Vondry, is the best in the business.
My suggestion for the dyno is to see if there is detonation. The Air/Fuel ratios at high rpm (lean cond's) can cause piston cracking. Are you having warranty work for excessive oil consumption? If so, I suspect the ring lands may also be damaged.
I am sure Connell will take good care of you.
Thanks Mike,
I have had issues with pinging all along. I heard a lot of good things about Connell. They have had my car now for 2 weeks and just found out about the piston yesterday. I think they had a Tech get sick in the middle of my job so it just sat for a while. They claim I could get it back today but I am doubtful about that.
The dealer has had my car since the 4th of Nov. Do you fell GM owes me a car payment or extended warranty or something. What’s the best approach? The service dept has had a good attitude all along but this is getting a little old. Any proven suggestions.
OK I pick up my car last night and have a few questions. On the "DIC" the oil temp reads LOW and will not change and I can smell oil burning as I drive. Were is the sensor for this located? Could it be disconnected and leaking oil? The car seems to run good but I have not pushed it yet. They also trashed my paint with deep water spots that may need to be sanded out. I spent an hour on it with 3M Fines It. Anyway a little advise on the oil temp would be great.
