Mine is a 98 and still running the original. I live in Seattle where the summer and winters are pretty mild which I believe helps battery life. :seeya :flag
I have a 99 also and my battery lasted 25000 miles.I reolaced the battery and if the next battery needs replacing at 5oooo miles,i'll be getting about 25000 miles per battery. :chevy :chevy :flag :flag :chevy :chevy
Patches, did you have the security on? I heard that this will drain the battery in a week-and-a-half to two weeks.
Yep, had the security on. I was wondering where the drain was coming from. I'll take note of that and turn it off when it's in the garage. Got a Redtop and Battery Tender Plus now so should be fine.
My C5 was built 7.26.99 and sat on the showroom floor until 2.10.00.
This summer I had it on jackstands for 10 weeks while the engine was being rebuilt and I thought that would be the end of the battey but I kept a trickle charge on it and it is still running strong.
You are lucky! The originial Delco battery in my 1999 C5 coupe (purchased new) lasted a little over one year, then it leaked acid and caused considerable damage.

Sears offers free replacement on their batteries for the first 36 mos and then prorate them to 100 months. I think I'll get a Die Hard Gold and not have to worry about it for 8 years.

Re: How long did your battery last? (KP99Vette)
I have a '99 with 31,000 miles and the car wouldn't start this morning b/c of the battery. It just clicked and did all this crazy stuff to the dash.
How long did your first battery last in your C5?

If it's dead, make sure it didn't pee acid all over your computer and wiring harness. I would NOT go with anything other than a Redtop or AGM type battery. If you go with something that can leak acid, you're asking for trouble.
I second all the comments about early batteries leaking. The battery in my 99 went dead this july, I had to spend a full saturday running a nbew vacum line and cleaning up the acid spew from the POS. Even if your battery isn't dead it is worth the $110 to switch to an optima or agm to avoid the hassle
The original battery in my '99 was doing fine but you guys got me nervous about the possibility of a leak so this past week I got an Optima yellow top. Man it sure seems much stronger than the original -- it flat spins the motor! I found a place that sells Optima blemisheds, and only payed $65. You can't tell the difference except it doesn't have the pretty tag, and only has a one year warrantee. :D
I still have the original battery but it's sitting in storage. After reading so many leaking AC Delco battery posts, I too switched over to the Optima Redtop battery for peace of mind.
I just had to replace the AGM in my 2002 after only one year. I hadn't driven the car in over a month and the battery was completely dead.
The AGM has a 7yr. warranty. Why didn't you get it replaced for free and then use your battery tender? It seems that there are quite a few people on the forum that are having problems with the Optimas.
The original battery in my 97 (4-97)is still going strong. Several years ago the green eye went out and I took it in to the dealer. They checked it and said it passed a full load test and said forget about the eye. So far it has been doing fine. It takes long periods of radio playing when I am working on the car and in the winter time it sits for 30 to 40 days at a time before I get a chance to take the car for a ride.
