took my car in and had the oil changed. since they had a record of my car I didn't pay attention to the type of oil they put in it until now
It has had Pennzoil 10 30 fully synthetic oil in it for its life, this time he put in castrol gtx 10 30
do I need to have it changed out and put synthetic back in? will the change cause any oil leaks?

I believe the GTX is actually a synthetic blend. It’s not going to hurt or cause any problems at all having that oil in there. I personally prefer a full synthetic like the Pennzoil platinum but if I were you I wouldn’t bother having it changed again.

Agreed, change it at the normal interval with the synthetic of your choice especially if you are on a stock cam.
Oil is Oil.........As long as it meets the specs for your motor, you can use any brand of oil that you want. GM gets money from Mobil Oil for using their oil..Plain and simple, its all about the money. Valvoline is just as good as Mobil 1 is just as good as Penzoil is just as good as Castrol. and so on and so on.
I wonder if anyone knows if any synthetic oil on the market today does not meet the specs required for the C5?
I haven't seen one on the shelf of any auto parts store or Walmart.
Just asking.
I use Mobile 1 if it's on sale. If it's not I will use something else that meets the spec.
I don't buy the oil is oil argument but at the same time especially on a stock motor a full synthetic in a recommended weight from Valvoline, Castrol, Mobil1, or Penzoil will be fine. If you have have a blend I'd certainly change promptly at the recommended mileage interval (not the monitor).
I prefer to go with Wix or NAPA gold filters(which are WIX).
Why is 10-30 being used? Factory spec is 5-30.
That is what the previous owner used and we are in cali so it doesn't get as cold as other parts of the USA.
But thank you all for replying . I wanted to be sure there would be no harm done to the seals and develop leaks
That small of a change won’t make a difference for oil leaks. The age of the car will cause oil leaks at this point. Use the oil recommendation on the filler cap. It’s there for a reason.
It amazes me how many people are sucked in by the Mobil 1 advertisement on the oil cap.
I'd change it a little early and start using a full synthetic 5W30 or Euro 0W40 from now on. Both are great oil choices for your C5. Lately, I have been using the Euro 0W40.
From what I understand, all current full synthetic 5W30 oils now use a different specification compared to the C5 oil specification. So, if you must be **** about your oil you really should be looking into that and figuring out where or how to get oil that meets the specification for your car. This applies to Mobil 1 the same as the rest of them.
Seems like a lot of ppl are brainwashed into thinking you have to use Mobil1 because it’s on the oil fill cap. It’s proven to be a good oil but it’s not the ONLY oil that is fine for our cars.
The whole low viscosity requirement is ONLY so GM could hit a gas mileage number. The thinner the oil, the better the fuel mileage. Changing oil brands or viscosity is not going to matter one bit. Visit bobistheoilguy.com for all the arguments....
