I just took my AC belt off to get rid of that terrible squeak, and I think it worked. It is winter time in PA, will any problems arise from driving with no AC belt for a couple months?
Does anyone think it could mess with the harmonic balancer since now only one of its two pulleys will be spinning?
There should be no problem running without an A/C belt.
thank you for getting back to me!
i also noticed that the brand new tensioner I put on (accessory system) was slightly bouncing around at idle. Is this normal, or should the tensioner have zero play?
I deleted my A/C system entirely, but still have a harmonic balancer that can accommodate the A/C belt. No issues whatsoever. I wouldn’t worry about that.
Regarding the tensioner, minor movement would be okay. As the pressure fluctuates on the belt, the tensioner is doing its job keeping even tension. Significant movement would lead me to suspect the tensioner mechanism is weak or another pulley in the serpentine system could be creating excessive drag.
