Default Black Friday + cooling system refresh

Good Day,

I had a hose burst not too long ago and just decided to redo the entire cooling setup considering how old is it. Before I purchase anything I wanted to make sure there were no black friday deals that I could possibly use. Most of everything I see is for go-fast parts or aesthetic's, nothing for maint items or percentages off of totals.

RockAuto is my go to for maintenance parts. No way you can beat their prices. Full bore for shipping, but still cheaper than anywhere. Should be able to find a 5% coupon...

AdvanceAuto usually has some great coupon codes upwards of 30% off. They sell Carquest / Dayco hoses which are fairly decent. Oreilly sells Gates if you have one near you as well.

Both solid suggestions.
Rockauto hands down had the best pricing and biggest part selection.
Cinci, do you know anything about CarQuest parts? Decent? When I googled I found reviews from people who used them for major parts replacement and a lot of the reviews seemed good (aside from starters), though no reviews were for the vette specifically. CQ was the only brand they had available for some parts I looked at.

Ended up leaving the country for 1 1/2 months. Wasn't able to find much in terms of deals so I just decided to put it off until I returned. I ended up sticking with Amazon since I am pretty confident in their return policy, I have prime, etc etc.

Items I have in my cart (leaving out cents on prices):
ACDelco 20889 (Rad, $212)
ACDelco 10430189 (Surge tank, $96)
ACDelco 252-846 (water pump, $96)
ACDelco 15-11057 (thermostat, $30)
Gates 18127 (Hose, $10)
GM 10229491 (Hose, $26)
ACDelco 24458L (Hose, $16)
ACDelco 24388L (Hose, $19)
ACDelco 18021L (Hose, $16)
Total: 524.30
- Is there any reason I couldnt run down to the local hardware store for new water pump bolts?
- I didnt order a new surge tank cap because I replaced it with a 18psi cap not to long ago.
- I'll also be ordering a hose removal hook set since I read somewhere it will save some time.

Is there anything else I should be looking at doing while I am here? Replaced all pulleys and belts a few thousand miles ago. I thought about doing the harmonic balancer just for the hell of it but looks like that is more involved than I originally thought.

You can reuse any bolt that isn't a TTY (torque to yield, i.e. head, crank, rods, main bolts). Your water pump bolts are totally fine to reuse, just clean them very good and make sure your bolt holes are clean and dry as well.

For anyone who finds this using the search feature

The items I purchased were:
ACDelco 20889 (Rad, $212)
Reused my current res tank
ACDelco Mechanical WaterPump kit 12681186 (pump/t-stat/gaskets, $257)
Note: This is the 05-08 pump. I ordered two of these because one came damaged. Both orders arrived with a missing gasket. I saw comments about this on Amazon (where the damaged pump came from) and SummitRacing (where I got the replacement) leaving me to believe this is a ACDelco issue. The gasket you need is ACDelco 251-663 which was $4.
Gates 18127 (Hose, $10)
GM 10229491 (Hose, $26)
ACDelco 24458L (Hose, $16)
ACDelco 24388L (Hose, $19)
ACDelco 18021L (Hose, $16)
GM 10188023 (lower passenger side radiator bushing, $10)
ACDelco, Insulator, 10278679 (lower drivers side radiator bushing) $10

I forgot to order a hose. Its the one that goes from the reservoir to the upper metal pipe on the passenger side between the battery and the engine. Order this. I just ran to the local auto store and a hose cut to fit.

Other things you might need:
Rubber mallet to tap fans and AC condensor off of the radiator (I wouldnt hit the AC unit directly)
Hose remover hook set
Good lighting
