One of my son's stated that my c5z is too tame in the exhaust tone. I don't like loud exhaust tones but do agree with him. My 02' c5z is stock. I've read about the exhaust bypass mod. Is this worth the effort/money?
I can remove the pipes myself and take to a shop for this mod.
Stock exhaust with bypass sounds really, really great. Your C5Z has titanium exhaust so you'll need to get titanium tubing or find a shop that has some handy, plus TITANIUM WIRE and has a welder EXPERIENCED WITH WELDING TITANIUM. Using any other tubing or wire is going to cause issues and you'll end up with a big fat mess. I want to do this myself...(runs off to marketplace to bump thread trying to trade Corsa xtreme for Ti bypassed pipes)
Also, getting the stock system off & back on without cutting them can be challenging. You need a lift or need to get the car way off the ground so the Ti system can be removed from the car.
I have my exhaust off now and at a shop doing the mod. I have a jack from harbor freight that raised the car just high enough to get it off. It took only 30 minutes to take it off. Can't wait to get it back .
I've had the bypass and it does sound good. I now just have a stock 02 Z06 exhaust on (no pre cats add some nice sound, stock Ti mufflers) and that sounds perfect to me. The bypass felt a little loud some days, but I think some one has to experience it.
It's not a joke when people say the car has to come up HIGH to swivel the mufflers out. They are about 4 feet long, and must be flipped and twisted out. The tips will scrape the ground hard if not up high enough.
A tip I thought I'd share that I've heard before:
Find a loading dock. 3' works. Loosen the 4x bolts that hold the mufflers to the H pipe. Slowly back the car up to the edge of the loading dock and park. Use emergency brake and chock some wheels if wanted. You can now swing the mufflers down without any crazy-high-jacking-the-car-up.
