I have a 2003 and I'm trying to replace the horn bladder (so i don't have to run out at 3 am to pull the horn relay to stop it from annoying the neighbors). I'm having a hard time getting to the 2 torx bolts behind the steering wheel. First off, what size torx are they? Gm is silent in their service manual on that one, and second, any tips on getting to them? Knowing what I know about the Vette, I'll probably hear "start by removing the dashboard!!!" lol
It can be handy to keep a kneaded rubber art eraser in the tool box, to press into blind holes and recover a shape to measure, or, more often, just to see what is going on.
I have even used it on interior threads to get a look at the thread pitch so I can match it visually to the unknown replacement bolt. It has a slight memory characteristic , it springs back a bit if distorted, so will still keep the impression if if it isn't able to be removed perfectly. Looks Kind of like grey chewing gum, but not sticky and is hard to separate, so no worries about sticking the material into a hole and not getting it all back.
