A few months ago I purchased a used MGW Gripper ****. It was sold as a replacement for the standard 9/16" - 18 threaded shaft. When I got it I was surprised to see that it had a plastic (nylon?) insert with a set screw. At first I thought it might actually be for the C6 style shaft. However, it appeared to be threaded and when I installed it and snugged the set screw it seemed to be secure. It just was odd to me that it didn't come with an alloy insert.
Is this actually how this **** comes from MGW for the threaded shaft? Or did someone just force a C6 **** on the threads??
BTW, I didn't like the feel of the Gripper **** and went back to my round Hurst ****, Since I will probably sell it, I want to make sure I describe it properly.
I also reached out to another Corvette source and got an answer......
The early MGW Gripper ***** did have a threaded plastic (not sure of material) insert for the 9/16-18 shafts. Apparently, the new version of the Gripper **** has some kind of alloy, steel, aluminum insert.
