Default HUD position fix

Unfortunately something has obviously broke on my HUD and the display is way too low even when it’s at the highest position. Who all has attempted this fix and how bad is it? I know there’s some write ups somewhere on it I’ve come across it before. I’m thinking about making it a winter project and was looking for some feedback from anyone that’s done it.

I have not done this repair so I can not comment on the difficulty but here is a link to the instructions.

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...d-display.html

The 3rd picture is blurry and out of focus. It is just showing what the unbroken boss looks like.

The text reads: picture of the opposite side - mounting boss is this plastic pin that fits into the hole on the side of the mirror mount. Nothing broken here, just showing the other side.

I fixed mine recently. It's not hard just time consuming. Lots of screws and bolts to get the dash off. You need to take your time on the lower plastic because some of the parts get brittle and can break. The HUD itself is easy to fix. The plastic **** on the mirror breaks. I drilled it out and put in a metal rivit. and put it back together. I watched this video a few times and figured it out.

The dash isnt too bad to get out with the roof removed on a coupe, not sure about a FRC

On mine, the plastic nib on one side of the mirror was broke so I replaced it with a metal screw. On the other side, I was also missing the small grommet so I luckily had one laying around

The biggest issue I had was lining up the HUD display once it was fixed.
There is a slider (has two copper pieces on each end that moves and stops the electric motor movent), as well as a small arrow on the plastic gear that lines up with the main plastic gear.
Once you line up the arrow, put both sides of the mirror in, and put the spring on, it moves the slider. I had the best luck with manually putting the slider back in the middle position once the spring moved it.
If you don't get this right, you wont have a full swing of motion of the HUD display on the windshield, and/or it will be too far up or down when put back in and the motor can't move it much.
I had to keep plugging it into the cluster, sitting it on the right spot on the dash, and taking it back out a few times to get this right

Thanks for the info guys, the video was very helpful. Once you get the mirror out it seems like you most likely will have to drill out a hole to put a screw in there. Anyone know what size screw works good? Or if there is something better to use than a screw...

I drilled and tapped it for a 4-40 x 1/2 set screw. It gave me room to adjust the protrusion, then I JB Welded it in place. Overall, it wasn't bad to do, as said above, it's just time consuming, Having a 'vert definitely made it easy to maneuver the dash out.

I am having issues with the HUD display. I just fixed the broken mirror attachment and replacing bushing on the other side. While re-installaing the mirror, I followed the instructions from the VettePros
, which says to move the slider to one side and show 5 teeths on the gears(mirror tab gears). When I put the HUD back, it didn't project anything on the windshield. Mirror moves up & down. However, I did see some projection, when I moved my head outside from the driver's seat. So, this confirms it's not an electrical issue.

I removed the HUD again & repositioned the mirror to show 6 gears intead of 5, now I don't even see the projection from the side as before.

With both the approaches above, there is whirring noise from the motor when it reaches the bottom but not the top. Once, it goes all way the up, the motor stops.

The video didn't mention anything about an arrow on the plastic gear. After I stumbled upon your comment, I checked again for quite some time, but couldn't find any arrow. Where exactly is it, would you be able to guide me ? And second difference between your method and VettePros is that you move the slider to the center and they keep it on one side.
