I know this is not a corvette specific issue, but this is the best forum for legit responses and this issue is not car specific. IN my 2000 BMW 740il, all electronics will operate normally upon turning the key, but there is a loud clicking noise and no start. I found that where the negative battery cable grounds there are some sparks that shoot out in tandem to every time it tries to crank but not during the electronic usage. I tightened the nutt on the ground but it just causes more pronounced sparks. Obviously there is an issue at this point and my question is how to rectify this? Would simply removing the cable from the ground and cleaning the ground area likely resolve this issue? And what is best way to clean it? Thanks

I think if you hear a loud clicking noise and no start, you can check your battery or alternator. They may be work incorrectly.
I would remove the ground cable and make sure you have bare metal under the ground cable lug, inspect the cable for corrosion as well.
will do. The clicking is coming from the battery in the trunk not from the engine/starter area. alternator has been tested and confirmed perfect condition. battery is only 10 months old.
Go with this and I'd bet it will solve your issue...
i did so. I actually purchased new nutt to go on it. I sanded down the negative cable ground end on both aides as well as the actual metal ground area itself. The issue remains. Had battery tested and it was kind of low. Dropped it off at autozone to have it slow charged over 24 hours. I will pick it up after work. Good thing is if it doesnt work, i only bought it october of last year so it is under warranty I will get a new one if its bad.

Good advice. I'll just add to clean everything at that point, to make sure the ground contact is good.

This is a symptom of bad/intermittent contact. Inspect the integrity of the negative battery cable, including its grounding lug and especially the crimping (it might be loose).
You should check continuity from the battery (-) post to the metal frame where the grounding point is. It should be 0 Ohms. With the multimeter still attached, move back and forth the cables grounded at that point. Reading should remain stable at 0 Ohms while you do that.
