okay so i posted a couple days of ago wondering why my car was making this squeeking sound every time i went over a bump. i park my car yesterday and see exactly why. somehow, someway thanks to the quality construction of GM, i discover that my driver side muffler is dangling 4 inches lower than the right side muffler. i look under the car (not easy since it's like 3 inches off the ground) and find that the muffler bolts BOTH of them have come undone. the sound i was hearing was actually my muffler boucing against the undercarriage of my car. this is unbelievable. my big question now though is: Does anybody know what size and type of bolt were used at the muffler/overaxle pipe flange? these were the ones that came undone to reasons i cannot explain, and given today is sunday i'm pretty sure the GM service guys are watching football at home. best bet is to go to home depot and pick up some bolts and this time get bolts and a lot of loctite. thanks.
Can you take one of the bolts out of the other side flange and take that to the store with you to match up?
Just a thought, I don't know what thread size it is off hand.
BN - The flange bolts are M10X1.5X35 (GM Part #14060030) which is a metric size that you should be able to find at Home Depot. You may eventually want to get the GM part as these are strength grade 10.9 which you probably won't find at HD. It is hard to understand how the bolt could work completely out and fall off. Are you sure it's the bolts and not a broken weld at the flange. It is not uncommon for the pipe-to-flange-weld to fail and there may even be a Tech Serv Bulletin out on that. The gasket is probably in bad shape too. Good luck. :seeya
thanks for the info. went to home depot and got the bolts. it did turn out to be an undone bolt. how that happened is beyond me. well it's all fixed now and no more dangling muffler. thanks
