Default LS6 PCV systemj

Do 2001+ LS1 engines have the LS6 PCV system? I understand that they have the LS6 intakes.

The C5 used three different PCV systems:
'97-'03 LS1 was worst and most complex
'01-'03 LS6 was better
'04 LS1 and LS6 was best and simplest

So only the 2004 LS1 had the LS6 (2004) PCV system.

As you noted, all '01-'04 LS1 had the LS6 intake manifold. They also all had the LS6 block, which makes an upgrade to the '01-'03 (better) or '04 (best) LS6 PCV easy.

"The LS6 is essentially an enhanced LS1, so let’s look at how Chevrolet engineers accomplished this. The basic structure of the engine is the same as the base LS1. From the outside, the only visual change is the red engine covers, but inside, every system was improved. Starting with the block, small “windows” were cast between the cylinders to improve bay-to-bay breathing and main web strength. The LS1 engine allows too much air into the crankcase, which translates into a parasitic loss of power. The LS6’s pistons are a modified version of the LS1’s that have a slight barrel shape, designed to increase efficiency and reduce internal noise. And they are cast in M142 aluminum alloy that is stronger and more durable than the material used on the LS1. Increasing compression is an old hot rod trick that still works. Compression was increased from 10.1:1 to 10.5:1...…..To improve oiling, the PCV valve was relocated in the “V” of the engine. The “V” aluminum cover has oil baffles and unique tubing. The baffles reduce oil consumption and improve the capability of the ventilation system during hard cornering."

oil vapor still is sucked in by intake no matter which pcv system is used. The catch can eliminates most of that vapor.

I did my first plug change at 70,000 and they were clean. I read that on deceleration more vapor is sucked into the intake (higher engine vacuum). Would this be more prevalent on a manual trans? I have an auto. Just wondering that with clean plugs at 77k if I need a catch can? Thanks for the replies!

LS engines are notorious for ingestion of oil vapor into the intake manifold via the PCV system--That is why in later years as well on early LS6 engines theMost PCV system plumbing was changed

All you need to do is remove your old intake manifold and set it on the garage floor with the T -Body side down--The next morning there will be a puddle of oil under it on the floor !!
Oil contamination in the intake manifold thru the PCV system loses HP and causes carbon build up everywhere in the intake --The intake manifold--the combustion chambers etc--d
Most all engine builders recommend at least a LS6 intake valley that helps a lot However this is not a bolt on mod---The aluminum block under the intake MUST be clearanced to fit a LS6 intake--Not a hue job rather easy THEN The more modded your engine is especially with large
cams Most all will also add a "catch can" that is another mod that will completely eliminate any oil ingestion---- A catch can is cheap--But if you have a large cam or boost I would also add the new LS6 valley
PS On my 2002 HDS/cam/LT header car when I look into the intake manifold it is BONE dry of any oil vapor-doing both mods--It just keeps everything clean and eliminates any carbon build up
