Hello again, I wrote before about what I thought was my clutch slipping, but I wanted to pose to all of you experts whether you thought the same thing. Here are the symptons: When I let the clutch out, at about the last inch of pedal movement it feels like it catches and then slips and then catches; and when just putting along in a gear probably slightly higher than I should be in, it bucks (slipping and catching feeling again.) It's a 99 C5 with 60k miles. What do you all think? Thanks again, Mark.
Re: Clutch - General Question - Any help appreciated (MarkinNaples)
Kinda hard to diagnose from a posting, but your description of bucking sounds more like old fashioned lugging, not slipping.
Here's how I test for slipping: Put the car in first or second, and get the car moving at around 2000 RPM with your foot completely off the clutch. Then, floor the accelerator. Assuming the tires don't spin, it should be easy to tell if the clutch is slipping because the rise in RPM will be erratic. You may also smell burned clutch if it is slipping. If the tires spin, try it again, but in a higher gear.
Your engagement point seems high, but that may just mean you need to bleed the clutch line (like brake lines).
Re: Clutch - General Question - Any help appreciated (MarkinNaples)
I just went thru all this with my 2001 at 31,800 miles. The warranty dept bought me a new 2202 Z06 clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, throw out bearing, slave and master assembly. My clutch pedal would actually lock occaisionally at the floorboard and not release for about 5 minutes. When it did'nt lock my pedal stroke was very much as you have described yours to be.
Final analysis was the DOT 3/4 fluids deterioated the slave seals and eventually damaged the cylinder. GM wholesale changed everything under warranty due to a TSB on file.
You may need a new slave and possibly a master to fix your problem. OEM clutches chould last around 60-65,000 miles, depending on how you drive, amount of stop-n-go traffic, etc. You are at the edge of that as well.
I'd recommend spending about $1,500 and wholesale changing out to a 2002 Z06 setup like mine.

Jean, thanks for the info. Dang, the car is leased and I only have another year to go. Argggghhhh!! Seems to have gotten a little better with babying the clutch off the start, may try to milk it for a while before I take the plunge. Thanks for the help, sincerely.
