I have a 97 coupe. I lowered the front of the car by removing the bolt in the torsion bars. I was wondering if a shock that is better than stock would benefit me? Something like the z51? and are these types adjustable? Thanks in advance.
Z51 shocks are stiffer and larger diameter(I believe). Probably what you should do is replace the springs along with the shocks. If you lower, you are in danger of bottoming without a stiffer set-up. I lowered my Z51 car to the stock limit (without cutting/removing the adjustment stud) and I haven't seen it bottom, but you are even lower and softer! Z51 shocks are NOT adjustable, only F45 (electronic) and some aftermarket ones are adjustable.

Bilstein sports work well with lowered vettes. The stock base suspension will hit the bump stops too much. The Bilsteins will be significantly stiffer, but will help handling alot. They are $300-330 for a set of 4.
Z51 shocks are stiffer then base, but not as stiff as Z06. They also will not solve the bump stop problem you will encounter with the soft springs though. Go Bilstein or for $800 go adjustable Koni. Hals are $900 on the mall.
