Default LS1 Crankshaft Balance

Hey guys, I'm in the middle of a fairly major and unexpected rebuild of my engine. Long story short, I had my crankshaft out at the machine shop getting inspected, the journals refinished and rebalanced. The balance job did requires all rotating components be weighted etc. to install proper bob weights. All components were well clean and the rods, pistons and pins were left stock. For some reason the crank shaft itself was way out of balance. Quite a few holes had to be drilled and a Mallory weight had to be installed to get the crank to ultimately spin good. I was pretty hands on with the shop as this process was going on and I'm confident that the current balance is accurate. Does anyone have any idea as to why a factory crank wound be so far out of balance using the weights of factory components? I'm as a loss, but throughout this project i've been looking for a reason as to why my stock LS1 ate a cam lobe at 100K miles. maybe a misbalanced crank is the answer?

Anyone thats interested in the long story behind this project and how a harmonic balancer replacement turned into an entire engine rebuild the link the the main thread is here: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...e-rebuild.html
