I drove my 2002 Z28 the other day and noticed that shifting in that car is a ton easier compared to my '99 vette. Is this just an inherent difference between the cars?
If I go to an aftermarket shifter like the Hurst on the vette will it make things any easier? Thanks in advance!
Going to an aftermarket shifter won't ease your shift efforts, it'll probably increase them. I've got a '94 Z-28 with the T-56 tranny and a Ripper shifter, and my '00 FRC shift effort is about the same, but I don't like the angular rotations that I go through in the C5. OTOH, during the heat of battle at the local autocross, I don't even notice any problems, I just run through the gears. :D
I've driven a friend's '99 Trans Am, and I thought the shifter in that was sloppy loose, much worse than my Z-28 when it had the stock shifter.
I think the reason the effort on the C5 is higher is because the shifter is remote from the tranny, whereas the F-body's shifter is directly mounted on the tranny.
