Please explain the difference between high perf. torque converters to me.......
I'm currently running a Pro Torque 2400 converter as it says in my signature. I rarely if ever go to the track. I'm looking to maximize performance on the street, sort of light to light, but I don't want to lose anything when I punch it at 50-120 either. I'm considering a bigger cam and 3.73 gears but I would like to pass northeast inspection at the same time. A detailed explanation of Converter options would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.....

The higher the stall RPM the faster the engine can get in the power band. On the street a high stall converter makes heat so you need a cooler. Traction determines how you can hit the converter. I like 24-2800 for daily drivers :yesnod: 34-4000 for drag racing.
Thanks. If I'm reading that correctly, even if I go with a bigger cam and/or gears, I don't think that I'm too bad off with my current torque converter for daily street driving. I don't plan on installing a rollbar and track use is not my goal but rather one bad street vert. Unless I go with bigger gears, I would leave the converter thus saving on the labor involved. Decisions, decisions,$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. I'm waiting to hear from Carmen at The Vette Doctors for his professional opinion.

Cam and converter selections are very coupled. If you go with a cam that shifts your torque and power curves to the right, you'll want more converter as well. This matters less with really flat curves. Don't be afraid of too much converter as long as you're comfortable with the feel of the pedal.
I really like the 3.73s and SY3500 on the street. :D I'm not satisfied with the SY at the track but that's probably not a fair evaluation since I'm horribly under-tired.

I agree with Kurt (Topless Texan) you want to match them, cam and converter). When I put the cam it my converter was not enough so I had to change converter.
For the street you should be fine with you combination where it is and I probably would not change it.
Now since you have all that extra cash maybe you can buy me a roll bar for christmas;)

Don't be afraid of the 3500 stall converter. I will never go to the track and I need it as a daily driver, and its very mild under regular applications. But when I want to I can roast em up and smoke them lowly 2400 stalls all day long!!! ;) Honestly, the 3500 stall is just fine, it is the best setup, particularly with the 3.24s. I think it would be nice with the 3.73, too.
Re: Please explain the difference between high perf. torque converters to me....... (2000^C5)
After speaking with the Vette Drs. they were honest as always. For $3500 + they felt it isn't worth "Yanking" out the Pro-Torque 2400 converter, 3.42 gears and cam for maybe 20 H.P. and totally different driveability, that I may not like. He said the idle is much more lumpy than I have now and it's not a simple cam swap. Springs and other components have to be changed as well. So for now we'll re-evaluate and stick with our 400 RWHP and 407 RWTQ daily driveablilty that I've grown to love. :chevy
