Just got my car back. This weekend I had a 3.42 rear, sy3500, transgo and an Eastcoast deep pan, installed. I've been reading about these mods and how happy they make the people who have them. But until you experience it, it's hard to know. It's a totally different car. It feels like it doesn't need any engine mods. The mechanic tested the car before I set the gears and it set a bunch of codes. When I picked it up, we cleared the codes and set the gears with edit. That was all for now. No more codes and all shifts and lockup work great.
I drove the car for an hour off and on the highway and the tranny temp never went over 178 at 55 outside.
I couldn't resist hitting it from a stop one time. It broke loose with no revs and I got right off it. It's all you all have said. Vince, Buck and others I can't recall. Thanks for the advice.
Exactly the set up I have the parts for...not installed yet. The only difference is that I had headers put on first. Soon to experience the same as you!
exactly. Since I never intend on going 150mph + anyways... why waste all that LS1 power on the high end. Heck; get me through the quarter mile super fast... that's my quest :yesnod:
Sounds great, but you should have saved the money on the deeper pan, ( waste of money ) and invested in headers. Believe me they also make a differance.
Kerry I have all the parts. Heads, headers, cam, Vararam, tranny cooler and much more, so it's not an either or. I don't have time until after the holidays to give up the car. In my "humble" opinion, the deep pan is a great investment, a must for me. Not a waste of money. When your trans oil gets hot your trans is vulnerable. I think it's up there with the double roller chain and other inexpensive insurance policies considering the damage they "might" help avoid. Again it's my opinion and to me not a "waste" of money. I appreciate your concern in trying to save me money. :jester
blktie8, cute handle. I think your asking how it drives on the highway? The converter locks up and it feels stock. It is the most stock in fact. You hear your exhaust more because of the higher revs at low shifts.
blktie8, more feedback for you. I drove 120 miles today. It runs just like stock on the highway. I get 1.5 less mi/gal on the road and the same around town. That's compared to a 3.15. There was a bump on the 1-2 shift at 0-12 throttle posion. I lowered the line pressure at that level and eliminated the bump. When I push it a little it has a fast snappy shift, as usual. I got used to the slight looseness from a stop so fast, it makes me wonder if it should be looser. I'm lovin' it.
