New member here! I've been reading over the forums for a while now without being a member and I've ran into a problem that I have not found much info on and really need some help and insight. I currently own a 2001 c5 and I purchased the car as a roller with the drivetrain still in it. It just so happens that I had a 6.0 lq4 out of a 2000 chevy 2500 that I thought would be great for a turbo build on the car. After the install of the lq4 I noticed that the harmonic balancer was right in the middle of where the steering rack fits. So naturally I assumed that the reason was because of the accessories, so I purchased ls1 water pump, ls1 super damper harmonic balancer under drive pulley, ls1 brackets etc. After installing the harmonic balancer it is still about 1/4 of an inch off and will still hit the steering rack, it has come to my attention that there is a wide and narrow crank flange on the lq4 models from 99-00 could this be my issue as to why it is not clearing? Am I missing something here? I'm stumped and sorry if there is a lack of info or I am not posting in the correct section but this is getting to me and I have no idea why the front of the crank sticks out so far. All of my engine mounts are correct and installed but it is still off.
Actually I believe you're right with the shorter crank. As I understand it that's why the c5 and cts-v is known to have issues with the balancer walking off. But don't take my word as gospel because it could be wrong. Definitely do more research. Good luck.
