Default Replacing Tonneau Lift Supports

2004 CE Convertible

Finally got tired of holding up the tonneau cover with my right shoulder when taking the top up and down. So will be replacing the lift support struts.I only found one write up on the forum on how to change. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...placement.html
It seemed kinda vague and the pics were not clear enough for me to understand how/where the struts are mounted. So I finally found them. the gas cylinder end is in the trunk above the courtesy lights. I understand now why guy in previous post had to put his wife in the trunk to see them. Here is pic of how they are mounted.

This is looking from the floor of the trunk up into the fender.
Will continue this post with pics as I do the replacement.

Step 1 : From the trunk use a big screw driver to pry the back socket of each strut loose from the ball. It takes a good bit of pressure to pop it loose.

Step 2: Grab each of the dangling shocks and pull toward center of trunk. Front socket will pop off easily.

Step 4: In the trunk slip the new shocks into place and snap the rear socket over the ball. I left the retaining clip loose incase I might need to remove.
Step 5: close trunk and open tonneau cover and support it open. I used a piece of PVC pipe.
Step 6: Slip the front socket of each shock over the *****.
Step 7: Use a pair of pliers to snap the front retaining clips in place.
Step 8: Close the tonneau and open trunk.
Step 9: Snap the rear retaining clips in place. I used a wood block and tapped with a hammer.
Done about 30 minutes and a slightly skinned and bloody hand.
