hi all, just discovered an oil leak under my car
i immediately got to the rear of the valve covers and its dry. any tips on what i'm up against heres an image of how it shows up on the floor after two 20 mile trips. it seems to be coming from the rear center of engine to passenger side
thanks JR i havent gotten it up on a lift yet but isnt the pressure sendig unit behind the driver side head? this leak is more from the center to the right.
i guess i'll find out

Yep. Getting under it is the only way find where it's coming from. Hope it's just a loose filter. My wifes Mercury almost always leaked whenever she had the oil changed at a quick lube shop. I would always have to reach down and tighten it.
PCV is clogged and has pressure buildup has pushed out one of the two (most likely upper) oil pan gasket.
change the PCV assembly (so it doesn’t happen again) after changing the blown gasket. Sometimes the rear main seal is pushed out, hopefully for you it’s just the oil pan gasket (which isn’t fun to change either).
Wish you luck on the leak. My '03 Coupe was leaking also and check all the usual things. Cleaned as well as could and look like stuff coming from the oil pans, front , rear ( and not the sending unit ) . So , at a 146K miles , it went to a shop I liked and 2300 bucks later all gaskets and seals and pulley replaced a few months ago. Now just 20 miles from 148K miles and was under it a few days ago and no leaks. ;-)
I have a small leak on my '02 that I'll take a closer look at this Spring. Oil sender always seems to be one of the first recommendations but in my case its totally dry in that area. My plan is to start with the simple things first like tightening the lower oil pan bolts, checking for a leak at one of the valve covers, checking PCV, cam sensor, etc. The thread below is one of many good threads discussing oil leaks on these engines.
When I got my 2000 delivered, the first thing I did was crawl underneath it and was happy to see everything was dry. The DIC said it had 73% oil life left, but I immediately changed oil and filter anyway. A week later I noticed the oil pan was covered in oil. I have a blacktop surface where I park the car so small leaks would not necessarily be noticed. I checked closer and could see a drip ready to fall from the oil drain plug. Went to the dealer and got a new plug, replaced the old one and that fixed the problem. It appeared the rubber washer was pretty much collapsed on the old one. Funny how it was okay and then it wasn't.

got it up on the lift. removed the rubber inspection panel. on the bottom of the engine. oil is coming from above the rear main seal. after i wipe off all the oil my plan is to run the engine to see where its coming from. my first step will most likely be changing the oil pressure sending unit and the camshaft positioning sensor.
the CPS sucks because you have to remove the intake to remove it while im at it i will replace my pcv valve
