recirc light stays on

I had a similar problem with my 2000 Hardtop. (I have the manual HVAC controlled system.) The lights in my display would periodically not turn off when the electrical system would go to sleep. As a result it would run the battery down overnight. It took a while to figure it out as it didn't do it every time. I finally spotted it in the garage one night in the dark when I noticed the display was still lit up.
A fully charged battery would normally correct the problem, but since I didn't drive it very much I decided to keep a Battery MINDer on it. I also noticed that whenever the MINDer light was not blinking the display would be lit again. The lights in the display are controlled by a relay. If the relay sticks it can keep power applied even after power to the control circuit (of the relay) is removed.
The HVAC displays are not cheap, but the manual ones are no longer being made, so for the most part you're looking for a functioning used one. Unfortunately age and humidity are the enemy of relay's, so a used one may well be no better than the one you have. The flexible 'skin' of the display also gets very fragile over time, so be sure to get a good picture of it before you purchase. The replacement I bought looked okay, and functions just fine, but the 'skin' is not as nice as my original one.
If anyone knows of a place that refurbishes them, I'd sure like a POC.
A friend tipped me off to Car-Part dot com. It's a great site for a myriad of obsolete parts and you can find most anything on it. They also typically have good pictures of the components and everyone I asked questions of, answered back promptly. One vendor mentioned he was expecting a few in from a repair facility near Jacksonville, Florida, but when I asked him who they were he avoided answering me.
Good luck... GUSTO
The replacement control display is not that bad, and I was hoping to get the original repaired and reinstall it without risking damaging it.
Thanks, GUSTO
