Just had new 4.10's installed and my car pops out of second gear
about 50% of the time. Based on the posts, I believe my syncros
may be shot at only 2000 miles!
Are the syncro's part of the 4.10 differential or is it somewhere else?
I can swap back to the 3.42's if I need to (they didn't seem to have this
problem).
Re: HELP!!! Where are the syncros located? (EditMan)
If your synchros are going out, it usually starts out by grinding slightly when shifting into gear, then gets progressively worse. Is this happening? If the car goes into gear cleanly, then pops out, it's not likely a synchro. They only help the process of going into gear smoothly. Actually does not sound like a synchro problem. Sounds more like a shifter problem.

My 01 Z06 is in the shop for the 6th time with tranny woes. There is a TSB on my problem. It pops out of 3rd and gets stuck in 4th. Warranty covers it. Take it in before it gets worse and causes more damage.
Re: HELP!!! Where are the syncros located? (jschindler)
It goes into gear smoothly (no grinding), but pops out upon release of the clutch. This only happens in second. Didn't happen with the 3.42's but
the problem may have been masked.
I will take it to the shop in the AM to see if we can get the shifter adjusted. (I thought the shifter adjustment was for all gears not just second but its worth a try... The shifter does feel like it's starting out more to the right side of the car than it used to) - Hopefully, a simple fix.
Re: HELP!!! Where are the syncros located? (jschindler)
They have to take the shifter out to change out the gears, I'm pretty sure. So that could have effected it. Keep us posted.
Yep... The shifter needed to be recentered. The C5 shifter has a neutral lock. It's very easy to do. (35mins as a separate job, 1min with the 4.10 swap) - He just figured it was already centered so he didn't bother recentering.
